Biography

Sarah Ellen Godet was born in Boston in 1859. She was the daughter of Matthias Godot, a Nova Scotia native of Acadian ancestry, and Bridget Clark, a native of Ireland. She was raised Catholic in the Boston area, and her maiden name was a variant of the surname "Gaudet."

In early adulthood, she moved to Gloucester, MA, where she married Herbert F. McQuin (usually given as "McQuinn") in 1881. They had four children together while residing in Gloucester, three of whom survived to adulthood.

They were:

• Ethel Sarah (christened and sometimes listed as "Sarah Ethel"), 1881-1946, who never married or had children.
• Sophie (sometimes listed as "Sophia") Elizabeth, 1886-1955, who also never married or had children.
• John E., 1887-1888, who died in infancy.
• Harrold Joseph (often listed as "Harold T"), 1892-1954, who married Antoinette Frances Bianco in June 1920 after serving in World War I; they were separated by 1950, and do not appear to have had any children.

Sarah was widowed in 1893, and eventually relocated to Belmont, MA with Ethel, Sophie, and Harrold; after Harrold's marriage, she continued to reside in Belmont with Ethel and Sophie until her death in 1946.
