Biography

Francis was born in 1893. He was the son of Harry Godley and Elizabeth Annesley.

Brigadier Sir Francis William Crewe Fetherston-Godley was born on 25 January 1893. He was the son of Major Harry Crewe Godley and Elizabeth Mary Annesley. He was given the name of Francis William Crewe Godley at birth. He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England. He fought in the First World War. He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.

He married, firstly, Kathleen May Jenner Davies in 1919. He and Kathleen May Jenner Davies were divorced in 1940.

He fought in the North-West Frontier in 1920. In 1923 his name was legally changed to Francis William Crewe Fetherston-Godley by Royal Licence. He was appointed Knight in 1937. He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches. He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.

He married, secondly, Reine Cecilia Siddons Faulder in 1941.

He was Provincial Commandant, Kenya Police Reserve between 1950 and 1954. He was awarded the Colonial Police Medal (C.P.M.) He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Gloucestershire.

He married, thirdly, Alice Kathleen Mary Dixon, daughter of Edward Wilbraham Dixon and Alice Isobel Hardcastle Sykes, on 1 February 1961.

He died on 12 July 1976 at age 83.
