Per letter from the Sons of the Confederacy, there was no Daniel "Owens" in 2nd Calvary, 19th Reg from Moore County. They concluded the misidentified man was our Daniel Goins and a proper headstone was put up. At the bottom of the gravestone, it reads Native American and Melungeon.

The above mentioned Margret GOINS is the wife of Daniel GOINS of Randolph County, N.C.I, Eli WADSWORTH, certify the above genealogy of Daniel GOINS to be true to the best of my knowledge information and beliefe 16th day of March A. JOHNSON an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said county in the State aforesaid Flora MCDONALD and Catharine McBRYDE who are well known to me to be respectable and truth telling women and after being duly sworn according to law doth say that they are acquainted with Daniel GOINS late of the county and State aforesaid, that they know his Father, Grand Father and Great Grand father, that his Great Grand Father (John Harmon) was a native of Portugal, and was always called a Portugan and he was the color of the natives of that place, and that he and his sons and grandsons Exercised the right of and passed as white men in every respect.
