Zilpha Gooch was born in 1811 in Gibson co, Indiana, daughter of John Gooch (1780–1840) and Mary Page Polly Walters (1785–1861).

Zilpha married Ephriam Thomas Simpson (born in 1815; son of William Simpson and Rhoda (Herrin) Simpson). Their daughter was Elizabeth Mary Simpson (1840– ).
