Biography

Asenath GOODENOUGH / GOODENOW was born about 1794. She was the daughter of Arthemas GOODENOW (1763 - 1847) and Margaret MAGOON (1763 - 1852).

She was married to Abel CONANT before 1821. An 1860 census shows her married to John Van riper and living in Michigan. Note that there are records of her marriage to a John Vanriper.

Abel CONANT was born on 1 March 1782 and died on 5 September 1840 in Bainbridge, New York. He is believed to be the son of Amos CONANT (1737 - 1817) and his wife, Mary BOWERS (1743 - 1824).

Believed to have been the brother of Sally CONANT (note: one born 15 Jan 1760 and died 30 Jan 1769, but another sister was born in 1770 who died 1785 by the same name), Levi CONANT, Israel CONANT, Polly (CONANT) HENRY, William CONANT, James CONANT, Reuben CONANT, Betsey (CONANT) FOSBURY and Leafia CONANT
His father was known to have resided in Concord, Massachusetts; Westminster, Massachusetts; Halifax, Vermont; and Bainbridge, New York
Abel CONANT is believed to have been born either in Westminster, Massachusetts (his father was living there in 1777) or in Halifax, Vermont (family was living there in 1784).

In the 1870 US Census for Joliet Ward 6, Will County, Illinois, Asenath was enumerated with the family of her son Lorenzo Franklin Conant. She was listed as Asenath Van Riper, having remarried following the death of Abel Conant.
