Biography

Beatrice was born in 1906 in the borough of North East in Erie County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Roy E Goodwill and Lena Southwick. At 18 she would marry Martin L. Gemler. They would have the children listed below. They would separate and she would marry George Stewart (Smith) Christenson before 1950. They would move to San Diego, California soon after. She would pass away there in 1989 thirty years after the death of George.

Memorial services for Beatrice E. Christenson, 83, of Clairemont, were yesterday in Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Christenson donated her body to the UCSD Medical School. She died Thursday in a hospital.
Mrs. Christenson was born in North East, Pa., and lived in the county 35 years. Known as "The Jelly Lady," she was the subject of an article in Family Circle magazine in 1984 because of her extensive work with the Community Christian Service Agency. Through the organization, she worked for years to help the homeless. She also was known for her jelly-making.
She was a homemaker and a member of the church and its Friendship and Mariners clubs.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond Gemler of Santa Ana, John Gemler of San Diego and Jack of Los Angeles; five daughters, Elizabeth Tamplin and Lois Russell, both of Erie, Pa., Janice Davis of Waterford, Pa., Catherine Spyrie of Florida, and Betty Russell of San Diego; four sisters, Marian Raymond, Lillian King and Betty Jo Good, all of North East, and Audrey Sugden of Bishop, Calif.; more than 40 grandchildren; and more than 60 great-grandchildren.
