William Goodwin was born Nov. 9, 1813 in New York (probably in Madison County or Cayuga County) to Lydia(?) Sweet and Jeremiah Goodwin. In about 1835 William's parents were lost in a storm on Lake Ontario. William's father was captain of the sailing vessel.
William married Chloe Fuller on January 14, 1838, in New York. Their oldest child, Lydia, was born in New York (probably in Auburn, Cayuga, NY) in 1839. By 1847 the family had moved to Woodbridge, Hillsdale, MI, with Chloe's family, where daughters Myrette and Harriet were born. By 1855 the family had settled in Montcalm County, Michigan, where their youngest child and only son, Orville, was born and died in childhood. William died in September 1886 County, Michigan, at the age of 72, and was buried in Sheridan, Montcalm, Michigan.
