Biography

Hector was born 22 Aug 1907 in Gisborne, New Zealand. He was the son of Thomas Gordon(1873-1940) and Emma Jessie Price (1876-1952).

Marriage One

At the age of 21Hector married 17 year old Alice Isobel Blomfield, of Nelson. The daughter of a well known Nelson Councillor, local government member and member of many societies, Sidney Blomfield. [1]Isol bel was to pass away on the 13 Aug 1996 [2] and is interred Wakapuaka Cemetery in Nelson, New Zealand. She had married a second time after her marriage to Hector had dissolved sometime prior to 1931.

(we note here that no Divorce proceedings can be found thus far on Archives NZ site). We would presume that they do exist however. Hector, after his first marriage; in 1931 married a second time. This marriage was to last him until his death.

Marriage Two Hector was to marry Eva Winifred Mathews and this marriage was to endure until his death

Hector married his second wife; Eva Winifred Mathews in 1931 [3]

Hector Parkes Gordon and his wife Eva had what appears from NZ BDM Searches to be their first child in 1934. This child sadly died young. [4] Certainly Hector had grandchildren as his will states, but as of Dec 2022 it is unknown who these grandchildren are.

Hector died at Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand on the 28 Jul 1982 at the age of 82[5].

Hector's probate was proved the 30 Aug 1982[6] where he is mentioned as a 'Retired Farmer' living in Papatoetoe and married at the time of his death to his second wife, Eva Winifred (nee Mathews) Gordon of the same address.

His will was a simple two page missive: It provided $1000 each to be given to his grandchildren (unnamed) with the remainder of his estate in entirety to daughter Heather Louise Burrell. This tells us that his second wife may have predeceased him.
