Biography
James Gorrie born about 1838 in Scotland. According to his death record, he was the son of James Gorrie and Catherine Holmes.
Shipping-As James jnr. Gorrie age 22 years arrived Victoria in 1860 with his parents and four siblings Catherine 16 years, Robert James 11 years, Isabella 9 years and Alexander Peter Gorrie.
James married Mary Ann Park on 16 September 1864, at Presbyterian church Geelong, Victoria Australia. They had eleven children named- Catherine Gorrie Ellen Mary Gorrie un-named Gorrie James Gorrie Mary Gorrie James or James Allan Gorrie Eliza Ann Lyia or Lia Gorrie Rose Gorrie Isabella Gorrie Mary Theodore [Dora] Gorrie Augusta or Augusta Maud Gorrie.
Occupied by Victorian Railway, there was no termination date of employment or a birth date, the following was all that was listed- Depot 2657 appointed 6 April 1875- grade repairer- ganger western line branch- married to Mary 2658. Source-D84.
He died at Heyfield Victoria, Australia in 1888. [1]
He died Intestate.
Headstone Inscription- Buangor Cemetery, Vic. Aus. "Sacred to the Memory of James Gorrie, who died 13 July 1888, aged 50 years , Gone but not forgotten; also Mary Gorrie wife of the above, aged 57 years, R.I.P."
