Greenberry Gosnell, son of Zebediah Gosnell, was born in Baltimore County, Maryland on 20 January 1756. He was named as a son in his father's 1800 will.[1] In an affidavit Greenberry gave on 23 January 1847 on behalf of one Henry Green, he stated that he was a native of Baltimore County, Maryland; had turned 91 on 20 January 1847; and served with Henry during the American Revolution in the company and regiment commanded by Col. Howard in Baltimore, Maryland - Greenberry for eight months and Henry for an unspecified period of time.[2] It is reported elsewhere that Greenberry served in the Soldiers' Delight Battalion of militia.[3]
On 6 December 1792, Greenberry was married to Ruth Pembarton, who gave him eight children before her death.[4] He was a farmer in that part of Baltimore County that became Carroll County in 1837, though his primary residence remained in Baltimore County. When he wrote and signed his will on 4 Apr 1846, he described himself as being "of Baltimore County" and bequeathed "Wilmot's Chance" in Baltimore County and a "Farm in Carroll County". The will was entered for probate on 11 August 1848.[5]
