Biography

John Burgin "J.B." Gragg was born 13 July 1871 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, USA[1][2] the second child and first son of Carroll Pinkney Gragg and Eliza Caroline Shope. He attended Maryville College in Tennessee when a young man; He married Margaret Anna Clontz on 6 Jan 1895.[3] settled on a farm and raised his family of 8 children together with Anna.[1] They were members of the Berea Missionary Baptist Church.[1] He passed away 5 October 1950 at a local hospital[4] and was buried at the Berea Church cemetery[5]

John Burgin Gragg, born July 13, 1871; died October 5, 1959. Married Miss Margaret Anna Clontz of McDowell Count, on January 6, 1895. J.B. attended Maryville College in Tennessee when a young man; settled on a farm and raised his family. Anna came to Buncombe County from McDowell County in her teens. She was employed by H. Filmore Shope family to care for a sick wife, and elderly mother, and growing children. She remained there until she was married to J. Burgin Gragg on 1895. They were members of Berea Missionary Baptist Church. Anna's birthday was April 12, 1874; died April 20, 1966. Both are buried in Berea Cemetery. Very, very fine, true, faithful Christians, leaving a family of Christian children. A homemaker."
