John Cyrus Grant was born in 1872 in Habersham County, Georgia, the son of John Cicero Grant (1832–1908) and Allie Lauveneh Deavers (1847–1919).

John married Louella Cordelia Gailey (1876–1950 ) on 23 Dec 1894 in Habersham, Georgia. Their children were:
