Biography

Elizabeth Jane was born on 23 March 1882 at Wallaroo Mines, South Australia. Her parents were Henry Gray and Jane Johns.^[1]

Elizabeth Jane Gray Married Frederick Samson Sanders at her family's home in Wallaroo Mines on 21 June 1905.^[2]

They had 2 children a boy Francis John Sanders in 1905 and a daughter Edna Radford born Sanders in 1907.^[3]

Elizabeth's husband Frederick Sampson Sanders was killed in a tragic mining accident at the Kurilla mine, Wallaroo Mines on 22 January 1907, leaving Elizabeth with a 2 year old and a young baby.^[4]

Elizabeth Jane Sanders born Gray married Edward Stanley Phillips on 8 February 1913. he was 23 yrs old.^[5]

They had 4 children together Samuel Roy Phillips, Born Oct 12 1913, Myra Pearce born phillips June 24 1917, June Steen Born Phillips June 12 1921 Betty Day born Phillips Sep 9 1928.^[3]

Edward Stanley Phillips left the marriage very close to Betty being born. Edward Had another partner and a child was born we believe it was a boy. His 4 children shared memories of him being a cruel disciplinarian. He died 25 November 1965 in Elizabeth Downs, South Australia, Australia. Elizabeth lived her later life with her daughter Myra in North Adelaide she was the grandmother to 15 grandchildren and was loved by her family. Elizabeth's 6 children and partners were very close all their lives and mixed at all family social advents.^[3]

In 1940, Elizabeth lived at North Adelaide, when her daughter June announced her engagement.

She lived at Ferryden Park and passed away on 6 May 1964 in Adelaide.^[6] She is buried at Centennial Park Cemetery in South Australia, Australia^[3]
