Biography

The daughter of Frank Greeley and Rachel (Barnes) Greeley, Ida May Greeley was born in Homestead Township, Iowa in 1880.^[1] She lived with her family in Iowa Township,^[2] later moving with them to Washington Township, in Gravity, Iowa.^[3] Ida May Greeley married Chester Warren Preston (1875-1933), the son of John Preston and Nancy Ann Hankins, marrying in Gravity, Iowa on March 13, 1901.^[4] Their children included:

1. Blanche Maude Preston (1901-1983)
2. Edna May Preston (1907-1984)
3. Ethel Marie Preston (1909-2002)

They made their home for a time in Taylor County, Iowa,^[5] but by 1909, they had moved west, to California, residing in San Berndardino.^[6] Her husband listed on the 1910 federal census that he lived on his own income. By 1920, her husband worked as a letter carrier for the postal service.^[7] By 1930, he worked as a clerk in the post office and their three daughters, all living at home, worked as school teachers.^[8]

Her husband passed away in 1933; in 1940, residing in San Bernardino, Ida lived with her daughter, Blanche, a high school teacher, and her divorced brother, John Greeley, who worked as an overseer for an estate.^[9] Ida Preston passed away in San Bernardino, California at the age of 83^[10] and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery there.^[11]
