Isaac Newton Greer was the son of William Greer and Hannah Ann Cartwright. His grandfather, Benjamin Greer held the rank of a Captain in the North Carolina Militia and fought in the Revolutionary War at the Battle of Kings Mountain.
Isaac was residing in Ashe County, North Carolina when he heard of land claims available in Kentucky. He traveled there several times, and in May 1858, bought 300 acres of land surrounding Beefhide Creek in what would later become Myra, Kentucky. He came to Pike County, Kentucky with his wife Nancy Norris (1808-1878) and children in a covered wagon in 1859.
Isaac Newton Greer, is the ancestor of all Greer's in this region of Kentucky.
