Wilson, p.126, believes Thomas may be the first member of the family to use Greystoke as a second name.
Farrer, EYC II:
Thomas de Greystoke, son and heir of William, as a mere lad, was in the last expedition of Poitou in the reign of John with Robert de Vieuxpont, his guardian. This must have been in 1216. He can hardly have been of age in November, 1222, when he had acquittance of li6, 13s. 4d., demanded at the Exchequer for the scutage of Poitou, then excused for the reason stated above. [R. Litt. Claus., i, 519b.] In 1219 Thomas had land in Cumberland worth li50 a year. He was then still in ward of Robert de Vieuxpont, who had married him to his daughter. [V.C.H. Cumb., i, 420.]
In the attached pedigree Farrer says that Thomas married a daughter of Robert de Vieuxpont, named either Mary or Christiana.
Wilson says Thomas was in possession of Greystoke himself by 1229, citing the Pipe Roll of 13 Henry III. Also:
In 1244 Thomas son of William obtained a grant of a weekly market and a yearly fair at his manor Greystoke ; in the charter for the market he is called Thomas son of William de Craystok
Sanders says he died 1247. His son Robert de Greystoke died without issue 1254, and then his younger son William was heir
