Biography

William was born about 1752. William Griffith ... He passed away in 1805.

Sources

Griffith, G.W.E. My 96 Years in the Great West" (Griffith, Los Angeles, California, 1929) He wrote the following: "My father has told me many times that my family were descendants from William Griffith,my great grandfather. He came to this country in 1775(a date typo?). He had three sons--named William Griffith, John Howard Griffith and Henry Griffith. William Griffith was my grandfather. They first settled in Maryland, but my grandfather moved to new York and first settled in Ontario County, now Livingston county, near Geneseo, the present county seat of Livingston county, but migrated from there to Michigan and settled on the River Raisen about 100 miles from where the city of Detroit now is."

Since there is no mention here of anyone living or being born in Connecticut, it leaves us with questions.

  • The Casey/Geltmeyer tree at Rootsweb
  • In the biography of George Washington Ewing Griffith, grandson of the William profiled here,"The original Griffiths of this line in America were 3 brothers who came from England in 1675 and settled on the Susquehanna River in Maryland. from the book,"A History of California and the extended history of Los Angeles and its environs" by James Miller Guinn. Google Books Online

I also have some question about parents above for Griffith 2372. See;Griffith Family-Bedinger Family History and genealogy at Bedinger.org/the Griffith Family.html. Therein the original William 1675 of this line married Sarah Mac Cubbin. So far there seems to be a missing link. Possibly 2 persons named William Griffith are mixed up. Possibly Griffith 2827 is a link ' This definitely needs more work and at age 88, it's confusing for me. __Please help if you can. What are the parents of William b. 1752 doing in Ct ? Other possible children are born in NY or VA or MD.

Griffith-5113 and Griffith-2372 appear to represent the same person because: same wife, son James is brother to son Horatio b,1796
Any help will be appreciated I'm too old to be doing this.
