Biography

Charles was born in 1913. He married Dorothea Ann Natzke in Seattle, Washington. In 1935 he was Machinist for Red Jacket Pump Company in Davenport, Iowa. In 1943 he was head of all the electrical work for Naval Station Puget Sound of Sandpoint, Seattle, Washington, currently Magnuson Park, supervising 190 people. He passed away in 1999.

Marriage

THIS CERTIFIES, that the undersigned A Minister, by authority of a License bearing date the 21st day of Aug A.D. 1933 and issued by the County Auditor of the County of King, did on the 21st day of Aug A. D. 1933, at the church Seattle County and State aforesaid, joined in LAWFUL WEDLOCK Charles B. Griswold of the County of Los Angeles, Calf and Dorothea A. Natzke of the County of King Seattle with their mutual assent, in the presence of H. R. Daniel, Mary Barmore and Mrs. Hattie Barmore witnesses.

Feb 1927 - Little Miss Dorothy Mae Griswold, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Griswold of Chickasha, and grand-daughter of Mr. N. P. Griswold of this city, died at Ada (Oklahoma) Saturday (12 Feb 1927) night, and was buried at Chickasha Monday afternoon. The little girl became ill while she and her mother were visiting at Ada, and was sick only a short while. Mr. Griswold and son, Charles, went to Chickasha Sunday night to attend the funeral. They returned Tuesday night. [1]
Sept 1927 - N. P. Griswold spent Saturday night and Sunday (11 & 12 Sept 1927) in Chickasha visiting his son Charles and other relatives. [2]
Jan 1928 - Charles and Earl Griswold who visited their father N. P. Griswold here (Pond Creek, Oklahoma) during the holidays left the first of the week for Chickasha. Charles is attending high school in Chickasha this year and is reported doing excellent work. [3]
May 1931 - Charles Burton Griswold, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Griswold, 618 North Independence, has been assigned to the electrical school of the U. S. Navy, it was learned here yesterday. Young Griswold was recruited February 18 by J. C. Mahan, in charge of the local recruiting station. He will take a 36-week course of instruction. [4]
Mar 1943 - Chickasha friends will be interested in an Enid newspaper story concerning D. B. Griswald, former local resident, now in service with the Navy at Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Griswald attended high school in Chickasha, during which time he made his home with an uncle and aunt, the late Mr. and Mrs. Mike Chestnut.
The story carried by an Enid paper follows: "An Enid father who is quite proud of the record of his son is making is N. P. Griswald, 213 1/2 North Independence, whose son, C. B. Griswald, is head of all electrical work in a Seattle, Wash., shipyard, where war ships are being turned out rapidly for the U. S. Navy.
"Griswald has 190 men working under his supervision in three shifts and in addition he is head instructor for the training school for the day shift.
"The lad, born in Louisiana, attended Chickasha High School and lived in Enid for a time before enlisting in the Navy Nov. 9, 1931. He immediately went into the naval electrical service and got his training for his present job in the Navy. He is married and has two children, Nancy and Earl, who are in school in Seattle. [5]

Obituary

Age 86, was born March 18, 1913, in Hammond LA; passed away November 26, 1999 in Seattle, WA. Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothea, and son, Charles E. Griswold. He was the loving father of Nancy L. (Jack) Mitchell, grandfather of Suzanne (Larry) Hubbard, Kimberly (Steve) Peterson, Steven C. Mitchell; great-grandfather of Jennifer and Daniel Hubbard, Elizabeth Peterson and was part of a loving family. A Memorial Service will be Thursday, December 2, 1999, 4:00 p.m., at Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home, West Seattle, WA. Memorials may go to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
