Biography

Eric Michael Tuson Gritten was born on 15 October 1896. He was the son of Michael Gritten and Lizzie Matilda Tuson.

He lived with his parents at 37 Halesworth Road, Lewisham, Kent, England in 1901. Also in the household was one servant. His father was a Surveyor.

Eric joined the Royal Air Force, and served in the 1st World War with the Royal Flying Corps. He was stationed in France in 1917[1].

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star.

Eric married Charlotte Leila Wiltshire in 1927 in South Stoneham, Hampshire[2].

They had at least one daughter.

In the 1939 England and Wales Register Eric M. T. Gritten (aged 43) was recorded living at 30 Northwick Circle, Kenton Place, Wembley, Middlesex, England with his wife Charlotte L. Gritten (41), his widowed mother in law Alice M. Wiltshire (aged 80 and a widow) and Sarah J. Armstrong (30).

Occupation: Registered Architect

His wife Charlotte was active in the 2nd World War, serving with the Royal Women's Naval Service. Sadly she passed away in 1942 at the age of about 43.

Eric passed away in May 1942, four months after his wife. He was 45 years of age[3].

Last Address: Heath Dormy House, Tadworth, Surrey

His Will was Proved on 14 September 1942 to Henry Benjamin Stuart Hoddinott (Solicitor). Effects: £610, 15s. 1d.
