Mr. Wm. Henry Frederick Grueber, son of Mr. Wm. Grueber, Sr., and his wife, Anna (Rockeman) Grueber, was born September 30, 1891, near Humboldt, Nebraska. He was brought to Jesus Christ in Holy Baptism in St. James Lutheran Church, Humboldt, on November 22, 1891. When he was about 5 years old, his family moved to the Byron area and William was confirmed in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Byron, on April 20, 1905.
William later married the former Johanna Gebers. Born of this union was a son, Leo, and a daughter, Betty. The family lived on a farm 2 miles west of Byron until their home burned in 1945. Then they moved into Byron where Bill was living until his death, Tuesday, October 15. He was discovered unconscious in his chair. It was learned he had suffered a stroke. He gradually declined until he died Monday morning, October 21, 1968 at 4:30 A.M. at the age of 77 years and 20 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Grueber, Sr.; by his wife, Anna; by two brothers, Fred and Henry; by one sister, Anna (Mrs. Fritz Bruns;) by 1 grandson, Randall Grueber, and 1 great-grandson Lance Longwell.
He is survived by his son, Leo Grueber, and family of Nelson, Nebraska; his daughter, Betty, Mrs. Walter Hobelmann and family of Lincoln, Nebraska; 3 brothers, George of Deshler, Nebraska, Elia of Long Beach, California, and Arthur of Belleville, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Fred H. Bruns, of Byron, Nebraska; 11 grand children and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 24, 1968 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Byron, Nebraska, with the Rev. P.W. Pilgrim officiating. Casket bearers were: Wayne Hobelman, Lance Hobelman, Terry Grueber, Walter W. Hobelman, David Hobelman, Richard Jorgensen and Donald L. Longwell. The Megrue Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of arrangements.
