In the 1841 Census, Joseph and Sarah - name transcribed as Gragson - were listed living in Darfield, Yorkshire, England. Joseph's occupation was listed as shoemaker. They had three children living in their home: William 17, Mary 15, and John 12. All were born in the County. [2] Ten years later they were living in Ardsley, Joseph's occupation was listed as book and shoe maker. They had their sons James and John in their home, both shoe makers, along with James's wife Ann, and their granddaughter Mary Eyre 6, born Leeds. [3] They were still living in Ardsley at the time of the 1861 Census. Joseph was still working as a Cordwainer. They had a 12 year old grandson, John Grayson, also a cordwainer, living with them [4]
Sarah died before the census in 1871, when Joseph was listed as a widower.
