Biography

Johann Sebastian Gunderman was born 4 October 1875 in Kolmschneidbach, Bavaria, Germany, the seventh child of Magareta Wolff and George Gunderman.^[1]

Along with his mother and two sisters, he emigrated from Germany to America in 1887, where the family settled first in Dwight, Illinois and then relocated to the Fulda, Minnesota area where the John's older brother had settled a year earlier.^[2]

In the 1895 Minnesota census John is listed with his sister Mary and her three children as living in Seward Township, Nobles County, Minnesota They are family 41 on page 6. ^[3]

On 9 May 1897 he married Mary Sophie Breit, a daughter of Anna Rosina Huebner and Johann Michael Breit, in Nobles County, Minnesota.^[4]

in 1898 John and Mary had a daughter, Martha Maria, that passed away at about 2 months of age. In the 1900 census John and Mary have a son. John's mother is also living with the family in Seward Township, Nobles County, Minnesota. ^[5]

In the 1905 Minnesota census John Sebastian (age 29) and Mary had 3 children listed with them. Also with them was John's mother The family was living in Seward Township, Nobles, Minnesota, United States ^[6]

In the 1910 census John and Mary were listed with 5 children. The census indicates that one of their 6 children had passed away. In addition to the children, John's mother and Mary's brother were also listed as part of the family. The family was still in Seward Township, Nobles County, Minnesota, United States ^[7]

After the death of Mary, on 13 December 1917 he married Henrietta Homfeld, a daughter of Grietje Meyer and Ben C. Holmfeld. They had two daughters and one son. ^[8]

In the 1920 census John has remarried after the death of his first wife during childbirth. John and Henrietta are raising six children from the first marriage and 1 from the current marriage. The family is still living in Seward township, Nobles County, Minnesota. ^[9]

In the 1930 census John (age 54), Henrietta and family were living in Seward Township, Nobles County, Minnesota ^[10]

Johann passed away on 17 February 1958 in Fulda, Murray County, Minnesota. and is buried in Prairie Hill Cemetery, Fulda, Murray County, Minnesota
