Rebecca Gunning was born in about 1834 and was baptised on 12 October 1834 at Christ Church, Warminster, Wiltshire[1]. She was the daughter of James Gunning and his wife Sarah Unknown.

By the time the 1861 England Census was enumerated on 7 April 1861, Rebecca Gunning (aged 26, single and an Assistant Cook) was recorded in the household of her brother Aaron Gunning (34 and a Pastry Cook) in Mark Street, Trowbridge, Wiltshire. Also in the household was one servant.
At the age of about 27 Rebecca married widower 25 year old Joseph Lanfear in 1862 in Warminster, Wiltshire[2]. They went on to have two daughters.

On 23 May 1872, Rebecca Lanfear was baptised at Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire. A note next her baptism entry reads "Wife of Joseph Lanfear Junr. Received by Letter of Dismission from the Baptist Church Bethesda Trowbridge."
Sadly she passed away in 1875 at the age of 39, her death being registered at Westbury, Wiltshire in the 2nd quarter of that year[3].
