Mary Frances was born in Maine about 1844, the daughter of Isaac and Mehitable (Smith) Guptill. She grew up in North Berwick, Maine with her parents and several siblings. Her father was a farmer.[1][2]
As an adult, she often went by her middle name, Frances. In 1869, he was hired as a teacher at the Glines School in Somerville, Massachusetts.[3] She was a teacher there for many years.[4] She spent several years as a teacher at the Forster School, also in Somerville.[5]
At the time of the 1900 census, she shared a household with her mother and sister Alma, also a school teacher, as well as her niece Alma Strand.[6]
By 1917, she had removed to Wakefield, Massachusetts, where she lived with her sister Alma, until at least 1925.[7] About 1925, the sisters appear to have moved to Denver, Colorado. Mary died there in 1928 and is buried at the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver. [8]
