Biography

Cheshire (historic flag)
Mary (Haddock) Roberts was born in Cheshire, England.
Mary (Haddock) Roberts was a Latter Day Saint pioneer.

Mary was born October 8, 1820 in Barton, Cheshire, England and baptised on November 19th at St Mary's, Great Budworth, Cheshire. She was the daughter of John Haddock and Elizabeth Beech.[1]

Her 1st marriage was to Joseph Peacock on September 23, 1846 at All Saints in Runcorn, Cheshire. She was of full age, a spinster, a resident of Runcorn and her father John Haddock was a labourer. The groom was of full age, a bachelor, a cordwainer, a resident of Runcorn and his father Joseph Peacock was a farmer. Mary signed her name in the parish register while Joseph made his mark X. Witnesses were Abraham Bunn and Ann B____. (sp?)[2]

Sadly, Joseph died 9 months later and was buried on May 26, 1847.

Her 2nd marriage was to William Jackson on November 13, 1848 in Great Budworth, Cheshire. She was 26 years old, a widow, a resident of Hartford and her father John Haddock was a labourer. William was 25, a bachelor, a blacksmith, a resident of Hartford and his father William Jackson was also a blacksmith. Both signed the parish register and witnesses were Thomas Eyres (sp?) and Martha Jackson.[3][4]

She met and married William Oliver Mawson in the winter of 1861-62 and they lived at Mill Creek. The marriage must have been extremely unsuccessful because it is known that Mary obtained a church divorce under authority of Brigham Young on March 9, 1862.[11]

She married her last husband William (Billy) Roberts about 1879.

Mary died at the age of 64 on July 27, 1885 in Bloomington, Bear Lake, Idaho and even though she was listed as Mary Haddock Roberts in her obituary, for some reason, her name was engraved as Mary Jackson on her gravestone.[12][13]
