Biography

In 1905, Ben married Maud Hunn, and in 1908 they came to Colorado from Wyoming where they made their home on the farm that came to be known as Junglewood - a major site for the Haley family for generations. Ben's major business at the time was to continue the family business of cattle and other livestock, but in 1913 he built a small greenhouse to begin a hobby in the flower business. In 1924, he established Junglewood, Inc., and by 1935, with the livestock business in distress from the Great Depression, he was devoted full-time to the flower industry.[1]

Once his son Ora Ben was born, he was at times referred to as Ora Ben Haley, Sr., or O Ben Haley, Sr., although informally he was always "Ben".

Memories: 1
Enter a personal reminiscence or story.
My memories of my grandfather ("Ben" to me) are few and far between. But I have distinct memories of him watering the carnation plants in the greenhouse. Walking through the greenhouses with Dad (O Ben Haley, Jr) as he would holler out "Dad" (it sounded more like "Ded" to me). I don't recall Ben ever answering Dad's call, but we never failed to find him.
