September 22, 1904 Wayne County Record Newspaper, IL "Mrs. Elizabeth Cross, who was possibly the oldest native born citizen of this county, died, Friday last, at the home of her son, Stephen Clevenger, in Big Mound township. Funeral services were held, Sunday at New Hope church, south of this city. The maiden name of the deceased was Elizabeth Hall, and she was born in this county, only a short distance from where she now lies buried, a few days more than 86 years ago. She was a woman of remarkable physical endurance. Her first husband was John Clevenger, and to them were born 14 children, all of whom grew to maturity. Her second husband was Levi Cross, by whom she bore two children one of whom survived her. She was an earnest Christian woman all her life and was loved and respected by all her neighbors."
