Charles immigrated to the United States in 1910 with his family. In 1920, Charles and his parents and sister, Helen, resided in Palmerton, Carbon, Pennsylvania. His father was a church minister. His 21-year-old sister was employed as a stenographer. [1]
Charles graduated from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts in 1936. He was married to Constance Lillian Hamilton in about 1938. In 1940, they and their infant son, David, lived in Medford, Middlesex, Massachusetts, where he was rector of Grace Church. He was then rector of St. Paul's Church in Concord, New Hampshire. Charles served as the sixth Bishop of New Hampshire in the Episcopal Church from 1948 to 1973. He retired in 1973. [2][3]
Charles died May 17, 1992.
