Alice Halton was baptised on 13 March 1836 at the Chapelry of Ellel in Lancashire; her sister Anne was baptised on the same day, their parents recorded as Thomas, a wool comber and Elizabeth.[1]
The Halton family were living at Dolphinholme, Ellel in 1841.[2]
They had moved to Piper Lane in Otley, Yorkshire by the time of the 1851 census. Alice, aged 15 was working as a worsted spinner.[3]
Alice Halton arrived in New South Wales, Australia on 8 July 1859 on the Queen of England with her parents and siblings. The passenger list had her parents Thomas 60, farm labourer of Lancashire, and Elizabeth 49, with children Henry 25, Alice 23, Isabella 21, Thomas 16.[4]
Alice Halton married John Deeks (recorded as "Dekes") in 1861, at Colly Blue, according to John's death certificate. The marriage was registered at Murrurundi.[5]
They had children: John b. abt 1862, William b.1863, and Thomas b. 1864.[6]
Alice's death has not been found in the NSW death registration index. Possibly a bush burial after birth of Thomas? Does anyone know what happened to her? Registration of son Thomas's death also has not been found.
