Biography

Middlesex (historic flag)
David Hambleton was born in Middlesex, England.

David was born on 23rd March 1940 in London, England; during the dreaded Battle of Britain. His parents are presently unknown, however, his birth surname was Hanscombe. David was soon after adopted out to George and Trudy Hambleton.

At 14, after changing his name by deed poll to Hambleton (the surname of his adoptive parents), David began work for Princess / P&O, as a ship's steward. He got to travel the world over the next 20 or so years on such cruise ships as the Oriana, Arcadia and Pacific Princess.

David met Australian Glenys Evans on a cruise on P&O's Arcadia. Their long distance romance resulted in wedding bells on 18th July 1975 in The Grange Baptist Church, Queensland, Australia.

David gave up the dream job, having been promoted to head steward aboard the Pacific Princess. He picked up work as a steward on Queensland's coastal cargo shipping between Gladstone, Weipa, Brisbane, Singapore and other ports. After developing a heart condition, David left the ships and gained casual employment at Thompson's Reception Centre, Gleneagle, Queensland, and private handyman jobs.

Glenys and David initially lived in the 'granny flat' on Glenys' parents' house at 51 Carberry Street, The Grange, before moving into their own home in Eagle Street, Goodna, Ipswich. There, they had their only child, Graham David, born in October 1976. It wasn't long before their desire for acreage brought them to purchase ten acres at Roberta Court, Jimboomba. There, they built their home and only sold in favour of a smaller place once more when told they would not be entitled to old age pensions owning more than five acres. Bureaucracy! They sold and moved into a house at Munruben Forest, with Glenys' mother moving in with them.

David always supported Glenys in her mission work. Together they sponsored an orphanage in India, which became known as Hambleton House, in their honour. David was at markets most Saturdays with Glenys selling 'trash and treasure' They raised healthy amounts in supoport of their orphanage and other Christian welfare ministries in India. They were particularly close to Graham and Gladys Staines when Graham and their two sons were murdered in India by a band of thugs.

David passed away on 13th January 2013 in the Princess Alexandra Hospital, South Brisbane, as a result of a major stroke; one day after Glenys' mother died at home of a heart attack.
