Biography
Louis Andre Hamende was probably born in Makinak, Manitoba on about September 11, 1906. He is probably (possibly?) the son of Louis Léopold Hamende and is almost certainly the son of Zelima (Libotte) Hamende (see below). Louis Andre married Rita (last name unknown) in 1929. Louis Andre passed away in August, 1981 in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, USA.[1][2][3][4]
Confusion surrounding his date of birth, place of birth, and father
What few records are known to exist state that Louis Andre Hamende is the son of Louis Leopold Hamende and Zelima (Libotte) Hamende. Louis Leopold Hamende passed away in Belgium on December 24, 1904. If Louis Andre Hamende is the son of Louis Leopold Hamende then Louis Andre Hamende would have to have been born prior to about September 25, 1905. This is incompatible with a birth date of September 11, 1906 for Louis Hamende which is what is claimed in the late registration of his birth filed in Manitoba on November 13, 1929 #46924. Also, Zelima is recorded as arriving in Quebec City, Quebec on October 10, 1905 with four children - Laurent, Marie, Amelia, and Eugenie Zelima.
It is possible that Louis Andre Hamende was an infant upon the arrival of Zelima and her children in Quebec City and that he was simply not recorded for some reason when they went through the formalities of immigration into Canada. It seems more likely that Louis Andre Hamende's father is not Louis Léopold Hamende and that Louis Andre was born in Makinak, Manitoba in 1906 (this is the conclusion supported by all of the known documentary evidence - October 7, 1905 record of Zelima and her children arriving in Quebec City (not listing Louis Andre), 1911 Canada Census (showing Louis Andre to be 4 years old), and 1916 Canada Census (showing Louis Andre to be 10 years old).
