Uncle Chet Hamilton Posted 27 Oct 2013 by marquismc on ancestry.com "A couple of college buddies and I ventured to Southern California just to see what was on the other side of the mountain. While there I met Bea and Chet, my Mother's Aunt and Uncle. And, I will try to tell you about Chet.

First, he was a Packard dealer in Whittier at a time when Packard was in the process of closing down. He told me how they made "house calls" to sell cars and even explained some of his negotiating strategies. I remember that he was driving a four door Packard that had a torsion bar rear suspension system that would automatically level itself. Chet was a "car" person.

After Packard folded he and a friend designed a built a small pickup, not unliked some of the ugly stuff that came out of Japan fifty years ago. It was not very stylish, but serviceable and, as I recall, he drove it around for several years, including a trip one weekend to Palm Springs where their married daughter lived. Chet was a busy person, often doing work on the car or painting the house or whatever. Othewise he thoroughly enjoyed playing Cribbage and taught me to do so which gave him the opportunity to often skin me alive at the game. And, he had played in tournaments which was time sensitive and allowed one player to claim points overlooked by the opponent so we attempted to also play at that level as well. (he did, I did not) Aunt Bea was slipping into dimentia which Chet chose to overlook. Indeed, he accepted her as she was and quickly praised her for whatever she might have done. They raised two children; Willis and Peggy and remained active in their lives as both also lived in Southern California."
