Biography

John was born in Nelson County, Virginia to David Hamlett and Margarett Harris Puckett Hamlett and along with other family members moved to Iowa in 1866. John married first to Esther Etta Rizer a school teacher in Wood, Iowa and they had no children, he married 2nd to Celia Louise Smock on Feb 27, 1880. In 1888 John and Celia and children Dicey, Margaret Grover and Elsie moved to Nebraska ( possibly near Sheridan, NE ) and while there 2 more children were born, David and Rosella (Rose). They all moved back to Wood, Iowa in Clayton County in 1890. After moving back to Iowa they has another son Elias. When John died in 1909, Celia sold the Wood, Iowa property and moved to Marquette, Iowa and lived there until she died in 1918.
