Biography

Obituary for Mrs. Delphia Hammond Franklin Funeral Services for Delphia Hammond Franklin, 83, Winchester (formerly of Frankfort) will be held Wednesday 12 noon at Central Baptist Church, Winchester, KY. She passed away Sunday at her residence in Winchester.

A native of Shelby County she was the widow of Charles Raymond Franklin. Delphia was born March 8, 1931, to the late Othna Murphy and William Hutson Hammond, Sr. She attended Waddy grade and high school in Shelby County. She was employed by First Federal Savings and Loan Association for thirty nine years. She served in many positions and was manager of the West Frankfort Branch upon retirement in 1996.

Delphia loved to entertain, play cards with neighbors and friends in Frankfort and Winchester, sit on the front porch to chat with all who might stop by. She enjoyed reading both for pleasure and learning and just loved people. She was ready to help when she saw a need. She loved her God and His church and served in many ways to share His love and promote His Kingdom’s work. Her passion for missions led to her serving as Franklin Baptist Asso. WMU director for 10 years. At Immanuel Baptist Church she served as WMU director for 25 years, Chair of Deacons, Chair of Stewardship- and many other areas as well as serving other states through mission trips. She enjoyed leading young people in different areas through the years.

Delphia moved from Frankfort to “Brooks Place” Winchester Retirement Place in 2007. She became a member of Central Baptist Church and learned to love the church and it’s people but was limited in her service due to health issues.

Most of all she loved her family, being with them as much as possible. She is survived by two sons Roy Davis (Donna) Franklin, Lafayette, Ky and Larry Douglas (Susan) Franklin, Winchester; sisters Virginia Goodlett, Waddy and Joyce (Bill) Jennings, Frankfort; brother William “Bill” Hutson (Becky) Hammond, Jr., MS; grandchildren Cheri (Mike) Taylor, Cerulean, Ky, Benjamin and Nicholas Franklin, Winchester, four great grandchildren Hudson and Drew Taylor and Carlee and Brittnee Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her sister Ina Stucker and brother John Foree and J.C. Hammond.

Visitation will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Central Baptist Church, 101 Lexington Ave., Winchester, KY with services immediately following. Rev. Dennis Wainwright, Rev. Michael Houchens, Rev. Matt Gurney, Dr. Travis Drake and Dr. Michael Greer will officiate.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort at 2:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to your local cancer or diabetes association, Central Baptist Church or the Kathleen Hutchens Infant Resource Center, c/o Immanuel Bapt.
