Biography

  • Apparently James W. Hampton and Sarah (Calvin) Moberly had an affair, resulting in the birth of a son, Charles Joseph Mobley (Moberly). They were neighbors. Sarah's husband, Erwin J. Moberly, may or may not have been still living at the time of the affair. Charles may have been born after Erwin's death.

  • "Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899-2011," digital images, Ancestry.com (http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=60716), entry for James W Hampton, born 17 May 1835, died 25 May 1910. The informant, his daughter, Mary (Hampton) Holsapple, gave the name and place of birth of her own mother, instead of that of the mother of the deceased.
  • Numerous autosomal DNA matches with a great-granddaughter of Charles Joseph Mobley, combined with a Y-DNA test of a great-great-grandson of Charles Joseph Mobley prove that James W. Hampton was the father of Charles Joseph Mobley, though there is a very slight chance that his brother, Zachariah T. Hampton was the father .

Hi, the marriage to Permelia is listed as ending in 1987. Looks like a typo?
