Eli Hamrick was employed at the Webster Springs, WV hotel. Part of his job was to prepare/dress chickens for the hotel. One day, an employer asked him, "Hamrick, how do you kill those chickens?" Eli replied, "With a Rimfire rifle, by God." [2]
Rimfire and his brother Ellis both posed for the West Virginia Mountaineer statue that stands on the grounds of the West Virginia State Capitol. [3] The statue was unveiled in December 1912.

A large reason for Rimfire being considered a prototypical Mountaineer was due to the many occupations he had. Rimfire owned a jewelry, watch repair, and gunsmith shop in Webster Springs. He was also the County Game and Fish Warden. Later in life, he was appointed fire warden including manning the fire tower on Turkey Mountain... an area he knew well from being a hunting guide.
When he ran, and eventually lost, for Senate of West Virginia, in 1932, his slogan was "You put him at the capitol in bronze, now put him there in person"? [4]
At age 52, Eli Chapman Hamrick married Zella Cogar in 1920 in Webster Springs, WV.[5] They did not have any surviving children. Rimfire is listed as "divorced" on his death certificate.
Rimfire died on April 1, 1945. He died of complications of old age when he was 77 years old. [6]
He is buried in the Kelly Ben Hamrick Family Cemetery in Webster Springs, WV. [7]
