Several local newspapers reported her illness and death: "Much regret is felt among a wide circle of friends of Mrs. John Jervis of The Laurels, Pender St., because of the very serious illness from which she is suffering. Mrs. Jervis was taken with heart trouble some ten days ago and this was followed by a paralytic stroke. She is at the General Hospital. . . Her son Dr. J. G. Jervis of Calgary is on his way to Vancouver. Mrs. Jervis is a well known old time resident of the city and was the hostess of the Merchant's Exchange during its best days. Practically all the old time residents are her personal friends. She is a member of the Pioneer Association, and of the McHarg Auxilliary, having performed a great deal of work for the latter organization during the late war." "Late Mrs. Jervis: a Pioneer Mother There passed away at the General Hospital on the morning of March 5 a lady whose demise deserves more than passing notice-Mrs. John Jervis. Mrs; Jervis, when this city was very young was mother, friend and sister to many of the straggling young professional and business men, not only of this city, but of the province generally who made the Merchant's Exchange their headquarters and who have since risen to prominence in their various occupations. Among those who made the Exchange their downtown home were the late Sir Richard McBride the Hon. Theodore Dacie, Judge McCreight and J. M. O'Brien. These gentlemen have passed away but their their influence lent lustre to the patrons of the Exchange over which Mrs. Jervis made a most popular hostess. There are many still here who can bear testimony to the valuable influence Mrs. Jervis cast around. The great banquet held at the exchange were dreams of excellence particularly one given by the Law Association to the late Hon. Theodore Davie on the occasion of his becoming Chief Justice of British Columbia. . .Mrs. Jervis has again proved the popular hostess at the Laurels, where a large number of guests went to the front to do their bit, many of who have returned bearing the marks of their honourable service and are now in deep distress at the loss of a loved one who was always their friend. Mrs. Jervis was a member of the Pioneer's Association and also of the Hart McHarg Auxiliary where she devoted all her energies to produce comfort for the boys overseas. She was born in England in 1850 and came to BC in May 1888 accompanied by her husband and young family. She leaves to mourn her loss one son, Dr. J. G. Jervis of Calgary and Mrs. H. D. Likely of De Roche BC."[10].
