Biography

Jeremiah Hanks was an Ohioan.

Jeremiah Jackson "Jerry" Hanks was born in 1824 to Virginians Jeremiah J. Hanks and Catharine Shively in Muskingum County, Ohio.^{[citation needed]} In 1830 they lived in Muskingum, Ohio.^[1]

At age 25 he married Terressa Swank in 1849 in Muskingum, Ohio.^[2]

In 1850 they were living in Muskinghum.^[9]

He enlisted on the Union side in the United States Civil War^[10][11][12] in the 160th Regiment of the Ohio Infantry, National Guard.^[13][14]

There is an unsourced story on his profile at FamilySearch that he contracted typhoid in training, was sent home and died before ever seeing action, and his wife died of it as well.

For his service his survivors later may have collected a pension.^[15]

He died in Ohio in 1864 and was buried in Muskingum, Ohio.^[16][17]
