Thomas married Gærtrud (Pedersdatter) Hansen (1818-) on 15 December 1837 in Ikast, Ringkobing, Denmark.[2]Gertrud was born 24 August 1818. She was the daughter of Peder Poulsen (1774–?) and Gunder Marie Andersdatter (1781–1869), who were married 19 April 1802 in Assing, Ringkøbing, Denmark.

Thomas served in the Ikast Rectory in 1840, while his wife lived in Corporalsgd v. N. 49.[3]
In 1860 Thomas Hansen is listed as a widowed householder and worker, still living in Herning By, Herning, Hammerum, Ringkøbing, Danmark.[4]
In 1870 Thomas Hansen is listed as divorced, and still in Herning By.[5]
Thomas was married a second time on 2 August 1872 to Karen Marie Madsen (b. 1836) in Herning, Ringkøbing, Denmark.[6]
