Biography

Cary Hardee is Notable.

Florida Governor. He was a school teacher until 1900, when he studied law, was admitted to the bar and began his legal practice in Live Oak, Florida. He served as the Florida State Attorney, (1905-13) and was member of the Florida State House of Representatives, (1915-17). In 1921, he was elected as a Democrat the 23rd Governor of Florida, serving until 1925. During his term, the state adopted constitutional amendments that reapportioned the legislature and prohibited the levying of state income and inheritance taxes. Plus the leasing of convicts to private businesses also was outlawed during his administration. After leaving office, he was a banker until his death at age 81.
