Family reports burial in this cemetery.

Dr. Charles A. Hardey.

DIED-At his residence, Sunday, October 11, 1896, at 3 p. m., Dr. Charles Anthony Hardey, aged 78 years.

The deceased was born in Grand Coteau, but his boyhood was spent almost entirely in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D. C. He was a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated with special honors.

He aided his sister, Rev. Mother Hardey, to establish the Convent of the Sacred Heart at Manathanville, N. Y., where all his daughters were educated.

At 34 he married Miss Laura Chenier, sister of Judge Jos. Chenier of Oberlin. They resided in Lake Charles at the time that flourishing little city could boast of but seven families. He held several positions of honor and trust while there, and was the only man who could control the desperado named Colin Lebleu. He was a surgeon in the Mexican war, and practiced his medical profession until age and bad health compelled him to abandon it.

He leaves a widow and seven children to mourn his loss. These children are: Mrs. Dorville Lafleur of Chataignier, Prof. R. O. Hardey of Church Point, Hon. Frank J. Hardey of Wharton, Texas, Thomas S. of Westlake, La., Mrs. Jos. Ardoin of Chataignier, and Miss Lillian and Joseph A. of Chataignier. The aged doctor was surrounded by the loving care of wife, children, grandchildren and friends, but our Saviour had called him and the heart-broken family simply bowed to the Divine will.

He was buried at the Catholic cemetery of Chataignier, October 12, and was followed by a large procession.

The day of the funeral was the forty-fourth anniversary of his marriage. He was a loving husband and father, and died a true Christian death.
