When Emily Harding was born on August 8, 1858, her father, William, was 25, and her mother, Ruth Hannah Brown, was 17.

She married Walter James Newton in 1883 in Victoria, Australia. They had six children.

She died on October 30, 1947, in Euroa, Victoria, Australia, at the age of 89.
