Biography

Amos Harding was born in Orange County, New York in 1770. He is the son of John Harding and Rhoda King.[1]

He married Jemima Harding née Harding in 1791. They had 10 children.

In 1820 he was living in Monroe, Orange County, New York with one adult female, 2 female children and 5 male children.[2]

He later married Barbara Wheat. In 1850, he was living alone with Barbara in Mount Hope, Orange County, New York.[3] His son Daniel and daughter-in-law Martha were living next door.[4]

Amos died from a "stroke of palsy" at age 82[5] in July of 1852 in Orange County, New York. His estate was probated there on 17 Apr 1852.[6][7]

Amos was a farmer[3] and a church Elder.[8][5][9]

Research Notes

This Amos Harding is definitely not the son of Huldah (Tryon) Harding: birth date and place are wrong and Huldah married Ebenezer Tryon, not Abraham. There is no evidence that this Amos Harding was the son of any Abraham Harding who at some time lived in Pennsylvania. Original links to Abraham Harding and Huldah Tryon were drawn from The Hardings in America, which has numerous errors regarding that branch of the Harding Family and I have decoupled both sets of links and edited this profile to reflect an actual Amos Harding of Orange County, New York.

Amos Harding, according to Find a Grave links the son of John Harding and Rhoda King, married Barbara Wheat (daughter of Solomon Wheat and Hannah? Fuller, (b 6 Apr 1792 NY).[10] The disparity of their ages suggests she may have been his second wife. Find a Grave lists a first wife named Jemima ____ (17?? - 1832, born in Sullivan Co., NY).

Amos's Find a Grave Memorial has links to his parents John Harding and Rhoda King, to siblings Abraham Harding (1778 - 1856); Charles Harding (1781 - 1852); Eleazer Harding (1784 - 1845); Reuben Harding (1786 - 1868) and Lemuel Harding (1788 - 1861).
