1854 Birth Catherine was born on the 2nd of August 1854 and was christened on the 29th of October at St. Stephens, Richmond, Victoria, Australia. [1] Her father was John Harland and her mother was Mary Maxwell.
Catherine's name is regularly written Katherine. Her husband's will refers to Katherine as do a number of newspaper references.
1864 Immigration On the 4th of January 1864, 9 year old Catherine and her 36 year old mother Mary and siblings Ann (9), John (7) and Mary (3) arrived in Port Chalmers, Otago, aboard the Lahore - ex Melbourne. [2]
1881 Marriage On the 30th November 1881 Katherine married Joseph Anderson Kernohan in Dunedin. [3] The Marriage Notice in the Evening Star records that Catherine is the eldest daughter of the late John Harland of Port Chalmers. [4]
1929 Death Katherine died on the 12th November 1929 and is buried in the Southern Dunedin Cemetery. [5] [6] The Cemetery Database records a final address of 52 Chapman Street, Dunedin. According to an obituary printed in the Evening Star [7] Katherine arrived at Port Chalmers in January 1864.
