Jean E. Gilbert, 89 APRIL 13, 1923-DEC. 11, 2012
Jean Elizabeth Gilbert, 89, of Silver Spring, Md., and formerly of Williamsport, Md., died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Casey House in Rockville, Md.
Born April 13, 1923, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late George Edgar and Anna Isabelle Bowers Harne.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Donald D. Gilbert, on Aug. 19, 1995.
She graduated in 1941 from Hagerstown High School.
She was retired from Fairchild Corporation.
She was a member of Church of the Brethren. She taught Sunday School and young adults.
She was a former volunteer with the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, and Parent Child Center.
She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Lynn Miller and her husband, Richard, of Silver Spring; one son, Jack Nevin Gilbert of Greencastle, Pa.; one sister, Barbara Ryan of Fairplay, Md.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Jean Toms; three sisters, Catherine Pope, Rebecca Mundey, and Dorothy Heckman; and four brothers, Warren Harne, William Harne, George Harne, and Jack Harne.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. William Sutherland will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
