OBITUARY: Earl L. Harper . Earl Lesley Harper, 80, retired farmer and former resident of the Cumberland area, passed away Sunday, January 28, 1968, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, in Omaha. . Mr. Harper, the son of Samuel and Lois Emaline Mann Harper, was born in Glenwood, Schuyler County, Missouri, on June 27, 1887. He grew to manhood in Cass County, Iowa; and; on November 7, 1906, was married to Bertha Amelia Madden, daughter of Thomas William Madden and Alice Lunetta Porter. . Earl and Bertha Harper farmed in the Cumberland and Orient area before retiring and moving to Atlantic, Iowa, in 1954. Mr. and Mrs. Harper moved to Peace Haven home in Walnut, Iowa, last month. Mr. Harper was a member of the Atlantic First Methodist Church. . Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Berchel H. Harper of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Gerlock and Mrs. Elmer [Edna Pearl] Edwards, both of Cumberland. . Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, January 30, at 11:00 o'clock at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Rev. Robert A. McBlain, pastor of the First Methodist Church in Atlantic, officiating. . Organist, Mrs. Harold C. Phend, accompanied Junior L. Wohlenhaus as he sang "Gracious Lord, Take My Hand" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Serving as casketbearers were Harold Childs, Earl Graham, Henry Hainline, Leonard Victoria, Walter Scott and Arthur Bees. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery, at Cumberland, Cass County, Iowa. . END.
