Gilbert Junior Harris, 82, Arkansas City, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at the Presbyterian Health Care Center. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven, KS. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Gilbert was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Wellington, to Perry Gilbert Harris and Edna Alma (Winter) Harris. Growing up Gilbert attended South Haven Schools. In 1949 Gilbert married Jimmie Sue Ater. The couple spent 30 years together. He later married Norma J. McCall in May of 1980. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Gilbert was a farmer and worked at G.E. as a mechanic retiring after 20 years. He was also a member of the First Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Norma; one daughter, Joline Martin, of Ardmore, Okla.; one son, Richard Harris; one sister, Bernadine McLain, both of Arkansas City; two stepdaughters, Nyla Grose, of Arkansas City, and Ruby Rowe, of Joplin, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Johnny Lee; and his first wife and mother of his children, Jimmie. A memorial has been established with the Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
