Roswell King Harris was born on March 20, 1850, in Davidson, North Carolina, to Ransom Wood Harris and Margaret Ann Ward. He married Lenora Emmeline Lee on 12 December 1872 in Davidson County, NC, and they had one son together. He then married Lodissa Jane Williams on 17 Oct 1877 in High Point, NC and they had five children together. He died on November 20, 1925, in Forest City, North Carolina, at the age of 75, and was buried in Hickory, North Carolina.
He was living in Guilford County, North Carolina, when the 1880 Census taker recorded him as a farmer. By 1899 he was living in Hickory, NC and was part owner of a beef market. In 1900 Hickory, NC he was a salesman for marble for tombstones, and in1910 he owned a hardware store in Hickory. About 1911 he left Hickory and moved to Asheville, NC.
He died on 20 Nov 1925 in Forest City, Rutherford, NC., at the home of his youngest son, Meader.
