Walter William Harris

Walter was Uncle to Margaret (Miller) Friesen. When Margaret was younger her dad (Jim-James Alfred Miller) and Uncle Walter both worked for the “coal mines” in Idaho. Walter worked in the Kellogg Mine, while Jim worked in the Sunshine Mine. When there was an accident at the mines [And there were accidents often] the ambulance from the hospital in Kellogg would pass by the one room cabin in Osburn, Idaho that Jim and Lois rented while Jim worked in the mine. As their family heard the ambulance going out to the mines they would wonder if it were their dad or Uncle Walter, that could have been the one hurt. There were cave-ins at the mines too. One day their fears were substantiated because the ambulance came for Walter after there had been a cave-in in the mine. He had been injured. All of Aunt Mary’s relatives, and Aunt Mary, went to the hospital to see Walter. He almost died. He did live and after that both Walter and Jim quit working for the mines. Jim had talked about the accident afterward with his family and didn’t want to leave a wife and children behind with no father.
