Biography

In 1861 was living with his parents working as a cordwainer (a tradesman who makes new shoes from new leather, not to be confused with a cobbler). In 1871, was living on Baker Street in Chelmsford, Essex, working as a machine fitter. He is buried at the Taradale Cemetery in Hawke's Bay.

Research Notes

The following information is from an e-mail sent by a direct descendant to the Profile Manager in March 2024. John's wife Elizabeth Sharman died, and he moved to New Zealand (not necessarily in that order). He then married second wife Mabel Annie Benet (or Benest as recorded in the New Zealand marriage index source below) in 1908. She was born on the Channel Island of Jersey and died in 1950. They had daughter Mavis Annie Harrison (died 1949) who married William Richard Jackson in 1930. It is from this marriage that the descendent providing this information is from.
